Introduction to Colour Theory with Deborah Thompson
2 Classes: Feb. 13 & 14
Saturday & Sunday 12 – 4 pm
This 2-day course will focus on the foundations of colour theory. During the course we will look at seven ways that colour can be used to create contrasts such as value, saturation, hue, warm/cool (temperature), proportion, luminosity, and complementary pairs. We will also look at how colour occupies and creates spatial relationships. Mostly, we will play in the world of colour! The course will be taught in acrylic paints and theories introduced will be applied to painting exercises. Demonstrations, hands-on mixing, and application of paint, accompanied by slide presentations will be used to convey the ideas of colour theory. Students will develop an eye for the sometimes subtle and always dynamic nature of colour! This course is applicable to artists working in any medium and all ability levels welcome.
