This June, artist Sandra Rechico from Toronto, will be the artist in residence at Oxygen Art Centre.  While in Nelson, she will be depending on the kindness of strangers to take her on walks.  She is interested in all altitudes: walks in the mountains, the city and the mines.  After each walk, Sandra will create a visual impression of the walk in the gallery.  Small still life set-ups will reflect aspects of the experience.  Please contact Oxygen by text or email to arrange a time to walk; info@oxygenartcentre.org or 250-352-6322.  All ages welcome and no walk is too short.  She is hoping to solicit volunteers at her talk at the Oxygen Art Centre on Thursday, June 7th, 7-9 pm as well.   Sandra Rechico’s studio practice in drawing and installation is currently focused on maps, routing, wayfaring and navigation.  She has also worked in collaboration with Toronto artist Gwen MacGregor.  Much of Sandra’s work in the past five years has responded to specific spaces. In her talk at Oxygen, Sandra will focus on these projects.  For more information see her website at www.sandrarechico.com.  This is a rare chance to interact with an artist on the innovative edge of current art practices.
