Balkan Choir with Bessie Wapp
8 classes: October 1 – November 19, 7 – 9 pm Wednesdays
Course description: Add your voice to the bold dissonance & clear sweetness of ancient mulit-part Eastern European a capella songs of love & lust, harvest & hearth, wartime, badly arranged marriages, drunken husbands, & more! No prior experience required. On the last class we’ll enchant an audience with what we’ve learned.  Repeat students welcome!

Singing the Blues with Bessie Wapp – CLASS IS FULL – to be added to wait list E: info@oxygenartcentre.org
8 classes: October 2 – November 20, 7 – 9 pm Thursdays
Course description: Life is the only experience required to growl, groan, wail and moan! Each week we’ll learn a blues song, and explore the rich swamp of the human voice in a relaxed & supportive environment. On the last class we’ll sing with a live band for invited guests.  Tuition includes a private lesson.

Realistic Drawing with Kriya Shakti
8 classes: October 14 – December 2, 6.30pm – 8.30pm Tuesdays
Course description: This method of realistic drawing is based on the art and skill of being able to shift brain states, gaining access to the visual, perceptual mode of thinking located on the right hemisphere of the brain.  The course is a journey through the book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, which covers basic skills of drawing and leads the student to new ways of expressing through art.

Writing the Serial Poem with Susan Andrews Grace
6 classes: October 15 – November 19, 5.30 – 8.30 pm Wednesdays
Course description: The serial poem, a series, or a sequence are different animals in the poetry world, like jaguars perhaps, that move between the lyric and narrative, the poetic and prose line, spoken and written-word in order to embrace a longer thought.

Intuitive Painting with Kriya Shakti
8 classes: October 16 – December 4, 6.30pm – 8.30pm Thursdays
Course description: Intuitive Painting is a process art form in which the process of painting is a fun and enriching exploration of discovery, while creating unique, expressive and colourful paintings.  Painting as process releases all focus, planning and preconceived ideas of the final result of the painting.

Mixed Media – Playtime for Adults with Win Dinn
2 classes: October 18 & 19, 9am – 4pm  Saturday & Sundays
Course description: Are you lacking technique, but have the soul of an artist?  Looking for a fun way to stretch your creative muscles?  This course is for you.  You’ll learn 10 ways to create a surface for your painting, as many ways to add new layers and found objects, and the steps necessary to complete your painting to archival standards.

Collage Painting with Natasha Smith
6 classes: October 20 – November 24, 6pm – 9pm Mondays
Course description: Learn how to create interesting surfaces using a diverse range of materials and then combine painterly techniques to create colourful textural paintings. Students will investigate colour and composition and discover how to collage, paint and photo transfer on panels, boards and alternative surfaces.  This is a process-based course with experimentation at its heart.

Fine Art Shadow Boxes (after Joseph Cornell) with Natasha Smith
2 classes: October 24 & 25, 9.30am – 4.30pm  Friday & Saturday
Course description: Spend 2 days creating shadow boxes that include collected objects, and fragments of personal memorabilia. Writing for Children with Luanne Armstrong, MFA, Ph.D
3 classes: October 31, November 1 & 2, 10am – 4 pm Friday, Saturday & Sunday
Course description: Picture books, chapter books, short stories, young adult books.  This intensive workshop plus mentored style course is for those who would like to become more familiar with the genre of writing for children, as well as those writers who have some experience in one or more of the genres.

Creative writing for performance and spoken word with Magpie Ulysses – CLASS IS NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME
2 classes: November 8 & 9. 12 – 6 pm Saturday & Sunday
Course description: Are you curious and inspired by this art form called spoken word? Do you have a closet full of poems and stories? Do you fear public speaking? Do you already speak, but want more experience crafting work? This course will explore a short history of spoken word as an art form in North America, creative writing for performance, public speaking, as well as rehearsal and memorization techniques for the solo performer.

Course description: In the rapidly changing world of digital publishing, it’s easy to get lost in the volumes of information out there. This workshop will teach writers the step-by-step essentials of independent publishing with a focus on hands-on learning and real-time information.

Creative Non Fiction with Luanne Armstrong, MFA, Ph.D
3 classes: November 28-30, 10am – 4 pm Friday, Saturday & Sunday
Course description: Creative non-fiction includes memoir, personal essays and literary journalism. In this course we will read some examples of memoir and other forms of personal nonfiction. We will discuss research methods, and workshop pieces of writing.
