Artist Statement
The power of love is often framed within the confines of romance, yet some of our most profound and transformative connections come from friendship. This work challenges the notion that romantic love is the ultimate form of partnership, instead celebrating the deep, enduring bonds we share with those who become our chosen family. True love is found in commitment, understanding, and shared experience—regardless of it being romantic.
Athena and Eleni’s friendship is a testament to this truth. Athena (in the first photo to the left) moved from Greece to Spain, not for a romantic partner, but to be with Eleni (who she joins in the second)—the person who understood her most deeply, who shared in her joys and struggles, and who had become her closest companion. Their bond defies conventional expectations, proving that love is not solely defined by romance but by the deep, unwavering commitment we share with those who shape our lives. This piece honors their story and invites others to reflect on the friendships that have changed them.
