BIO: Natalie Purschwitz
Natalie Purschwitz is an award winning fashion/costume designer and visual artist based in Vancouver, BC. Her visual art practice is materially motivated and driven by curiosities in anthropology, archaeology, human/nature relationships, morphology and formal arrangement. Clothing is sometimes a starting point for her work. She is interested in how clothing functions as a language and a form of cultural production. In 2010 she completed a project called Makeshift, a yearlong endeavor to wear only things she made herself including shoes, clothing, underwear, accessories, etc. The project received worldwide attention and led to exhibitions nationwide that showcased the clothing. Her work also incorporates a range of media including sculptural installation, video, performance, photography and works on paper. http://www.nataliepurschwitz.
