Oxygen Art Centre is a multi-disciplinary artist run center located in Nelson, British Columbia. Oxygen Art Centre provides space and time for the work, talk and community necessary for artists. As a center for practicing artists, performers and writers, our activities include exhibitions,literary events,classes and art and performance residencies.
Oxygen Art Centre also works in collaboration with individuals and groups embarking on special projects such as interdisciplinary performance works, theatre, curated gallery exhibits, art events, literary events, lectures and artist exchanges.
As a residency center, Oxygen Art Centre works with the national and international art and performance communities to offer a program of one month residencies for the purpose of nurturing the creation of new work. The residency program enriches our local community by providing stimulation through master classes, open studios, studio visits and through the public presentation of work.
Oxygen Art Centre’s Ideas Café series brings together an eclectic mix of activists, writers, performers, artists and community members for events that include slide lectures, artist talks, book launches, readings, parties, performances, panel discussions and more.
Oxygen Art Centre offers twenty weeks a year of classes in writing, visual art, performance, mixed media, interdisciplinary arts practice and creative process. Oxygen Art Centre offers advanced inquiry for artists who have completed basic training as well as community access for those in the beginning stages of their artistic development. Our facultyare experienced teachers, many with advanced degrees, who offer a learning atmosphere of collaboration and discovery, rich with cross-discipline dialogue.
