Keeping On Keeping On with Susan Andrews Grace
6 classes: October 3 – November 7 5.30 pm – 8.30 pm Tuesdays
Course Description: Sometimes the hardest thing is keeping on. This workshop is suitable for poets at all levels; it offers a new beginning and keys to a sustainable practice. Whether you want to finish a book manuscript or begin new poems this writing workshop will teach you how to trigger new energy and development in your poetry practice.

Flash – Non-Fiction with Rayya Liebich

Course Description: True stories. Few words. Big impact.
Discover the powerful form of Flash Writing (under 800 words) to capture the intensity and heart of your life stories. Through inspirational readings, writing prompts, and take-home tools, sharpen your craft and take memoir writing to a new level. Bring your courage and pen.

Singing The Blues with Bessie Wapp
9 classes: October 5 – November 30 7pm – 9pm Thursdays
Course Description: Life is the only experience required to growl, groan, wail and moan! Each week we’ll learn a blues song, and explore the rich swamp of the human voice in a relaxed & supportive environment. On the last class we’ll sing with a live band for invited guests. Course fee includes one private lesson.

Drawing on the Walls with Amber Santos
4 classes: October 14,15,21,22 1pm – 5pm Saturdays & Sundays
Course description: Explore large scale and collaborative approaches to art-making in a group environment. Through art games and sketchbook development, artists will expand their possibilities of process and have fun!

Folk Band Basics with Catherine McGrath
7 classes: October 15 – December 3 (No Class November 12) 6.30pm – 8.30pm Sundays
Course description: Do you love to get together with others to sing and play music but would like to develop your skills so you can contribute more at those campfire and potluck jams? This course will help you do that by showing how common chord structures work and by demonstrating simple improvisation techniques. If you have basic skills on any instrument (ie, you can play at least 4 chords or scales) then this class is for you.

Printmaking to Mixed Media with Natasha Smith
7 classes: October 16 – November 27 (No class November 13) 5.30 pm – 8.30 pm Mondays
Course Description: Investigate various low-tech printmaking techniques and then take your original prints and create exciting mixed media works. By collaging and incorporating various drawing techniques and by investigating shadow box creation, students will combine and transform their original prints. Students will have the freedom to create and develop their own unique projects.

Shibori – Indigo Dying Techniques with Seathra Bell
2 classes: October 28-29 10am – 4.30pm Saturday & Sunday (1/2 hour lunch)
Course description: Learn the traditional Japanese technique of Shibori and Indigo dyeing. The class will cover Shibori stitching, clamping, and shape resisting techniques and the magic of the live Indigo vat. Participants will have a series of samples and a larger final yardage to take home from the class.

Applied Printmaking – Basic Linocut for Small Editions with Cora Henshaw
4 classes: November 1 – November 22 6-9pm Wednesdays
Course Description: Over the course of four evenings, I will show you how to transfer a two-color composite image to two blocks of linoleum, how to carve it out and ink it, demonstrate some registration techniques, and show you how to use the baren/spoon for making relief prints. You can expect to complete an edition of ten small, 2-color prints on acid-free paper.
The material fee covers proofing paper and quality acid free printmaking paper and inks. Students of all experience levels are welcome to register.

Silkscreen – Introduction to Stencils with Cora Henshaw
2 classes: November 4 & 5 1-5pm Saturday & Sunday
Course Description: Over the course of a weekend, I will show you how to make a two-color stencil: draw it on a transparency sheet, cut it out, ink it and transfer the color to the paper. We’ll experiment with monoprints as well as make a small edition. We’ll investigate various colour combinations and different image placements. Students of all experience levels are welcome to register.

Weekend Workshop – Beginner’s Brush with Deborah Thompson
2 days: November 18 & 19 12-5pm Saturday and Sunday
Course Description: This two day weekend workshop is a great opportunity to discover painting.
We will begin at the beginning! Students will be introduced to the basic concepts of painting through demonstrations and hands on the brush exercises in paint. The first day students will explore shape, mark, tone and space. The second day students will dive into the vary basics of colour mixing and theory as they apply it to painting. Both conventional and non-conventional approaches will be presented.

Weekend Workshop – Beginner’s Brush 2 with Deborah Thompson
2 days: December 2 & 3 12-5pm Saturday and Sunday
Course Description: This two-day weekend workshop is a continuation of Beginner’s Brush 1 and open to painters that have some basic painting experience. The course will focus on aspects of colour theory and then applied to various painting exercises. The first day we will look at how colour mixes and its effect on the creation of space. The second day we will explore ways to create texture with colour, in particular the use of tonal scale and value. Slide show will be included as a way to illustrate how various artists throughout history have used colour.
