Fall 2015 Semester schedule:
Low-tech Printmaking with Natasha Smith
6 classes: October 6 – November 10, 6-9pm Tuesdays
Course Description: Explore the basics of low-tech printmaking and investigate processes that can be done without the use of a printmaking press. Simple plate-making and image transfer methods will be demonstrated and students will learn a variety of printmaking techniques including: basic relief printing (lino cuts & speedycut), collagraph (printing from collaged plates) & monoprinting (one of a kind prints). This is a very popular and fun, process based course and is appropriate for artists of all levels.

Actors Studio with Jordana Champagne
7 classes: October 9 – November 20, 6.30pm – 8.30pm Fridays
Course description: Do you want an acting class that’s less about theatre games and more about acting technique? Join us for a seven week class, where actors will learn professional acting skills and techniques as they prepare an audition monologue. We’ll cover everything from working with scripts, performance objectives, and expanding your range. At the end of the course actors will get to perform their monologues for friends and family.

Drawing Course: Getting at it! with Deborah Thompson (course is full – wait list only)
6 classes: October 15 – November 19, 5.30-8pm Thursdays
Course Description: This six week course will focus on the fundamentals of drawing form in space using various methods and mediums of developing volume, mass and form. It will also focus on explorations in bringing personal meaning forward in your work through a series of arts based inquiries. Artists throughout the history of art will be referenced during the course. The course is suitable for all skill levels including beginner. Students will work from a variety of sources including still life and photographs. A suggested materials list will accompany the course.

Playing with Design and Colour with Karen Guilbault (not available at this time)
1 class: October 17, 12pm – 5pm Saturday
Course description: Learn how to plan bold compositions and choose harmonious colour schemes using acrylic paints. Experiment with different fun ways to start a painting, including pouring on colours. All levels of experience welcome, open to age 13 to adult.

Intuitive Painting with Kriya A.J. Shakti
6 classes: October 18 – November 22, 2pm – 4pm Sundays
Course description: Intuitive Painting is a process art form in which the process of painting is a fun and enriching exploration of discovery, while creating unique, expressive and colourful paintings. Painting as process releases all focus, planning and preconceived ideas of the final result of the painting. This method of painting combines basic painting principles with a bold, spontaneous and fearless approach, which opens one to greater intuition and creativity.

Folk Band Basics with Catherine McGrath
7 classes: October 18 – November 29 + 6.30pm – 8.30pm Sundays
Course description: Do you love to get together with others and sing and play music? Here’s your chance to take part in an acoustic ensemble playing an eclectic repertoire of songs with fun arrangements. If you sing or have basic skills on an instrument this class is for you! Tuition includes a private lesson.

Painting: creating chaos with Deborah Thompson (course is full – wait list only)
6 classes: October 21 – November 25, 10am-3pm Wednesdays
Course Description: A studio based course that will focus on the exploration of a topic or image and the artist’s relation to that image as it develops into a body of work. Formal elements such as composition and colour will be explored. Focus will be on playing and experimenting as a process of creating new work and fresh approaches. Suitable to those with some experience with painting already and at any level. Studying the work of others artists and art movements will be part of the course. A suggested materials list will be provided.

Liminal Life Writing with Rayya Liebich (course is full – wait list only)
6 classes: October 26 – November 30, 6.30-8.30pm Mondays
Course Description: Fuel for creativity and healing can be found by revisiting the liminal periods in our lives such as birth, grief and separation. Discover how to transform your life stories into powerful poetry and prose using literary genres such as micro memoir, creative non-fiction, and letter writing. Classes will include guided prompts, peer feedback, and take home tools. Bring your courage and pen. All skill levels and life experience welcome.

Paint Your Art Out with Jennifer McAuley
2classes: October 31 & November 7, 9am-1pm Saturday
Course description: An introduction to various paint media, methods and styles. Experienced Artist Jennifer McAuley will guide you in exploring various mediums (acrylic paints, water colour, liquid mediums, texture mediums, etc) and applying them in both traditional and non-traditional ways (pouring, printing, brush work, palette knife, etc). Demonstrations & planned exercises are balanced with lots of time create and play! This is a great class for beginners to get a feel for various types of mediums and styles and for more experienced painters to experiment stretch their artistic wings. The emphasis is on finding a painting style that appeals to you and having the space to play, create and refine your art practice.

Christmas Creations with Jennifer McAuley (not available at this time)
1class: November 14, 9am-12pm Saturday
Course description: A morning of art making that you can use to make one of a kind cards, prints or pieces of art. You will be walked through a few simple and effective painting and art techniques and given time and direction in creating your own series of beautiful art works that you can keep or give away.

Beyond Mixed media with Karen Guilbault (course is full – wait list only)
1 class: November 21, 12pm – 5pm Saturday
Course description: You may have tried collage, inks, stencils, and pastels, and texturing gels before. But how do you combine them and layer them to make an effective painting? In this class use acrylic paint for your background or underpainting, and then learn how to layer other media for surprising results. All levels of experience welcome, open to age 13 to adult.
