Beginner Ukulele with Catherine McGrath
4 classes: Sept. 23,30, Oct. 14,21 (no class Oct 7) 6.30 – 8.30pm Sundays
Course Description:
The course is designed for people who have no or little experience playing ukulele and will begin with the very basics – how to tune, hold, and strum the ukulele – followed by the introduction of two simple chords and a number of catchy two-chord songs. Additional chords will be added gradually and song complexity will increase. The course will also cover a variety of strumming patterns and some very basic and useful music theory.

Singing The Blues with Bessie Wapp NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME
9 classes: Sept. 27 – Nov. 29 (no class on Oct 18 and 25) 7 – 9pm Thursdays
Course Description:
Life is the only experience required to growl, groan, wail and moan! Each week we’ll learn a blues song, and explore the rich swamp of the human voice in a relaxed & supportive environment. On the last class we’ll sing with a live band for invited guests.

Meet Your Clown – A Playful Introduction to Clowning with Marya Folinsbee
7 classes: Oct. 9 – Nov. 20 6 – 8pm Tuesdays
Course Description:
The clown is an ancient, archetypal character, channeling trickster taboos and the provocative divine! In this class we will tap into the clown energies in all of us through play, movement and story. Activities include improvisational theatre and movement, mask, costume and make-up creation, meditation, story-telling/story-building, and wild self-exploration. No theatre experience necessary. This work supports performers, artists, parents, and anyone plagued by seriousness. Reject your preconceptions about clowns! This will be weirder.

Low-Tech Printmaking with Natasha Smith
4 classes: Oct. 15 – Nov. 5 5.30 – 8.30pm Mondays
Course Description:
Explore the basics of low-tech printmaking and investigate processes that can be done without the use of a printmaking press. Simple plate-making and image transfer methods will be demonstrated and students will learn a variety of printmaking techniques. This is a very fun, process based course and is appropriate for artists of all levels.

Blackout Poetry with Rayya Liebich NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME
3 classes: Oct. 18 – Nov. 1 10am – 12pm Thursdays
Course Description:
Also known as found poetry or erasure, create a poem out of an existing text by removing words on the page to reveal a new message. Using old books, newspapers, and magazines have fun playing with the space on the page and get as creative and artistic as you desire. Through this process we discover the essence of poetry (compression, rich imagery and feeling) and gain fresh eyes on the writing craft.
Who knew that blacking out with a Sharpie pen could become an addictive, satisfying, and expressive new habit? All levels welcome!

Script Analysis for Actors with Jordana Champagne
6 classes: Oct. 19 – Nov. 23 6 – 8pm Fridays
Course description:
Take the guess work out of your performance by learning script analysis techniques in this 6 week workshop. We’ll cover everything from understanding story itself and how to break down a script and apply it to your performance.

Beginner’s Brush 1 with Deborah Thompson
2 days: Oct. 20 & 21 12 – 5pm Saturday and Sunday
Course description:
This two day weekend workshop is a great opportunity to discover painting. We will begin at the beginning! Students will be introduced to the basic concepts of painting through demonstrations and hands on the brush exercises in paint. The first day students will explore shape, mark, tone and space. The
second day students will dive into the vary basics of colour mixing and theory as they apply it to painting. Both conventional and non-conventional approaches will be presented.

Drawing Lab with Deborah Thompson CLASS FULL
2 days: Oct. 27 & 28 12 – 5pm Saturday and Sunday
Course description:
This two day weekend Drawing Lab is designed for those who are interested in developing a series of drawing with a narrative focus. The Lab will include working in varying scales, from small journal entries to large sheets of paper stretch on the wall. Themes will be encouraged and investigated as part of the process. Traditional drawing media such as graphite and conte will be used as well as pen and ink washes. Emphasis will be placed on drawing from unusual departure points such as Fairy Tales and Myths. Some drawing experience is necessary but mostly a desire to work with drawing as a way of exploring story.

Intermediate Ukulele with Catherine McGrath CLASS FULL
4 classes: Oct. 28, Nov. 4, 18, 25 (no class Nov 11) 6.30 – 8.30pm Sundays
Course Description:
This course is designed for people who have taken the preceding beginner class, the summer ukulele intensive, or who are able to play three-chord songs in the keys of C and G with a steady rhythm. The class will explore new keys, new chords, and more complex strumming patterns as they relate to a bunch of fun songs from a variety of genres.

Exploring Natural Dyes with Seathra Bell
2 classes: Nov. 17 & 18 10am – 4:30pm Saturday and Sunday
Course description:
Exploring Natural Dyes is an introduction to natural dyeing. We will cover the basic techniques of preparing fabrics for dyeing, mordants, and cooking of various natural dye materials to create beautiful colours. We will use a variety of locally wild harvested, compost, and exotic dye materials to create our palette of colour and transfer them onto an assortment of fabrics and yarns.
