SUMMER INTENSIVES

Working with Colour with Patrick McGoey

3-day workshop: Aug 5 – 7
Mon. – Wed.
9.30 am – 4.30 pm

Course Description:
Learn how to enhance your work with colour and avoid over blending plus create depth. For many artists painting is about colour, it is about emotion, storytelling and to delight the eye of your viewer.  In this colour intensive course you will learn how to mix any colour utilizing a limited palette. We will cover the basics of what makes a great painting including composition and tonal value and students will develop their personal colour strategy. It is about the paint, practical use of your paints and lots of practice. After this intensive you will buy fewer colours and create harmonized rich paintings.

Art of Activism with Jan Inglis

4 Classes: Aug. 8 – 11
Thursday evening
6 pm – 8.30 pm, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10am – 4pm

Course Description:
This workshop focuses on how arts can animate and amplify social change efforts through public engagement, critical analysis of community issues, team building, creative thinking, as well as bringing in fun when advocacy gets boring. Masks, movement, voice, writing etc. are used to explore motivations, assumptions, contexts, archetypes, and stereotypes. Hands-on learning of basic tools for creating characters and props using foam, papier mache, paint, and fabric may culminate in co-developing a street worthy event.

Zero to Sixty: Ukulele Intensive with Catherine McGrath  

5-day Workshop: Aug. 12-16
Mon. – Fri.
1:30 pm – 3:30 pm

Course Description:
The course is designed for people who have no or little experience playing ukulele and will begin with the very basics – how to tune, hold, and strum the ukulele – followed by the introduction of two simple chords and a number of catchy two-chord songs. Additional chords will be added gradually and song complexity will increase. The course will also cover a variety of strumming patterns and some very basic and useful music theory.

Course Fee: $130     Material Fee: $10.00
