Martina Avis
chinascarfme

Martina Avis is a local theatre practitioner. She has a BA in Theatre from the University of Victoria  and takes a special interest in community and youth projects. Recently, she worked with Winlaw School to put on a play with a cast of over 80 students.  She is extremely well-versed in Shakespeare and has directed numerous youth adaptations of his plays featuring Shakespeare’s original language, fast-paced movement, hilarity and exuberance.

Natalie Purschwitz

natalie self

Natalie Purschwitz is an award winning fashion and costume designer based in Vancouver, BC.  Her visual arts background and conceptual approach to clothing give her a unique fashion sensibility that is quirky, lighthearted and sometimes mildly humorous. In 2010 she completed a project called Makeshift, a yearlong endeavor to wear only things she made herself including shoes, clothing, underwear, accessories, etc.  The project received worldwide attention and led to exhibitions nationwide that showcased the clothing.  She aspires to an unconventional approach to wearing, making and thinking about clothes.

Teresa Segstro

Teresa Segstro has owned her own preschool and fostered a love of art with the young children she teaches for the past 30 years. She has taken several adult classes through Oxygen Art Centre, and enjoys exploring art herself.  She believes every child is an artist and we just need to nurture them. Come explore collaging, water color painting and mixed media.

A note from Art Camp founder
Art is essential. It connects us and brings great joy to our lives. By making and creating, we become problem solvers, exercising both sides of our brains. It is a celebration of beauty, a mode to express what is deep within, and a tool to better understand our place in the world.

That which is most essential is often overlooked and taken for granted. The arts are under represented in our schools and communities today. Understanding the importance of art education for our children and youth has been the core inspiration behind our children’s art programming over the past three years. It is with great joy that we see this program growing and becoming a consistent and reliable way for parents to enrich their child’s lives through art.

Thank you to all of you that have been a part of this journey, so far. We look forward to seeing even more smiles and excitement on children’s and parent’s faces as our program develops.
