Singing The Blues with Bessie Wapp
9 classes: October 6 – December 1, 7pm – 9pm Thursdays*
(*Except last two classes are 6-9pm & Week 6 is reserved for private lessons so no class that week)
Course Description: Life is the only experience required to growl, groan, wail and moan! Each week we’ll learn a blues song, and explore the rich swamp of the human voice in a relaxed & supportive environment. On the last class we’ll sing with a live band for invited guests.

Intro to Mixed Media: Ink and Printing Techniques with Karen Guilbault
1 class: October 8, 9am – 12pm Saturday
Course description: Using black and sepia ink techniques students will create patterned collage papers or complete paintings. Students will also create textures with ink poured through acrylic gels. Learn to make stamps from styrofoam blocks or carved erasers, and make prints using printmaking inks.

Intuitive Painting 2 with Kriya A.J. Shakti
5 classes: October 9 – November 6, 10.00am – 12.30pm Sundays
Course Description: Designed for former Intuitive Painting students, this studio space is a container to deepen your painting practice and continue the playful exploration of discovery as you expand your creativity, highten your intuition and witness your unique visual language emerging through painting.

Intuitive Painting with Kriya A.J. Shakti
5 classes: October 9 – November 6, 2pm – 5pm Sundays
Course Description: Intuitive Painting is a process art form; a fun and enriching journey of discovery that leads to unique, vibrant and expressive paintings. Process art releases all preconceived ideas and plans of the final result to embrace the creative process as a path to presence and authentic self-expression. This method combines painting principles and techniques with a playful, spontaneous and bold approach, which opens one to greater creativity and deeper intuition.

Folk Band Basics with Catherine McGrath
7 classes: October 9 – November 20, 6.30pm – 8.30pm Sundays
Course Description: Do you love to get together with others to sing and play music but would like to develop your skills so you can contribute more at those campfire and potluck jams? This course will help you do that by showing how common chord structures work and by demonstrating simple improvisation techniques. If you have basic skills on any instrument (ie, you can play at least 4 chords or scales) then this class is for you.

Break Free – Collage Painting & Abstraction with Natasha Smith
8 classes: October 11 – November 29, 5.30 pm – 8.30 pm Tuesdays
Course Description: Tearing, cutting and collaging. Moving, pouring, dripping, scraping & wiping PAINT! This is what this 8 session course is all about! Break down conventions, loosen your style, and be daring yet playful. Explore alternative techniques for collaging and applying paint and building interesting surfaces, while learning about the various acrylic mediums and applications. Explore the creative process through a series of exercises and projects using a non-representative approach where the formal design elements and principles will be discussed.

Poetry: Writing Longer with Susan Andrews Grace
7 classes: October 13 – November 24, 6 pm – 9 pm Thursdays
Course Description: A poetic series or sequence offers the poet space to spread out, to think a longer thought. Movement between the lyric and narrative, the poetic and prose line, the aural and the oral can be accommodated in longer forms. This workshop is suitable for all levels and will offer poets the opportunity to begin or continue.

Intro to Mixed Media: Collage and image transfer techniques with Karen Guilbault
1 class: October 15, 9am – 12pm Saturday
Course Description: This is an introduction to collage and image transfer on an abstract painted background created in class. Students bring imagery from calendars, magazines, or photocopies (from a printer with toner) to incorporate into their painting. Learn design principles to make an effective painting.

Liminal Life Writing 1 with Rayya Liebich
6 classes: October 17 – November 28, 6-8pm Mondays
Course Description: Fuel for creativity and healing can be found by revisiting the liminal periods in our lives such as birth, grief and separation. Discover how to transform your life stories into powerful poetry and prose using literary genres such as micro memoir, creative non-fiction, and letter writing. Classes will include guided prompts, peer feedback, and take home tools. Bring your courage and pen. All skill levels and life experience welcome.

Liminal Life Writing 2 with Rayya Liebich
6 classes: October 19 – November 23, 9-11am Wednesdays
Course Description: Delve deeper in to the stories you uncovered in Liminal Writing 1, tighten your craft, and explore how poetry and memoir can express your most liminal experiences. Peer feedback, teacher mentorship, takes home tools and inspirational reading each week.

Drawing Course: Pencil to Paper with Deborah Thompson
7 classes: October 19 –November 30, 5.30-8.30pm Wednesdays
Course Description: This seven week course will focus on the very fundamentals of drawing. It is designed for the beginning or intermediate student who would like to develop drawing skills as a way of exploring the visual world or to renew neglected drawing skills in order to bring back the joy to drawing. Drawing from observation will be the principle path to developing a rich visual vocabulary and understanding of form in space. The final two classes will be working from the figure as a place of expression and stretching of formal complexity. A model and materials fee will be included in the cost of the course. A suggested materials list will be sent out with registration.

Diving In: A Deeper Look at Printmaking with Marlee Lievre
2 classes: November 19 & 20, 10am-2.30pm Saturday & Sunday
Course Description: This two day intensive course will provide students with an in depth look at reductive lino cut printmaking. Students will learn how to print a proper limited edition on a printing press, understand how to mix and apply both oil and water based inks, along with a brief overview of the history of lino cutting. This course is great for all levels of expertise, beginners as well as previous printmakers; however, building upon previous printing experience is an asset. All material fees will go to group supplies for the whole weekend, just bring yourself, a pencil and a sketchbook!

Expanding the Play Range Between the Arts with Gabriel Keczan
2 classes: December 3 & 4, 10am-4pm Saturday & Sunday
Course Description: In this weekend workshop we will play with the concept of inter-modality within the tradition of Expressive Arts Therapy. The weekend is designed to offer a safe space to experientially explore the crystallization and inter-play of various arts as they touch each individual’s personal journey. No previous experience necessary. The workshop requires low skill and invites high sensitivity and a willingness to explore creativity both individually and through guided group process. We will expand the play range. We will allow for the harvesting of material from one modality to carry forward for processing in another modality. We will explore the sacred spaces of embodiment / dance / movement therapy, mark-making with paint and collage/mixed media, poetry and creative writing, voice and image dialogue.
