Winter/Spring 2015 Semester schedule:

Fine Art Shadow Boxes (after Joseph Cornell) with Natasha Smith

4 classes: February 16 – March 9,6pm – 9pm  Mondays
Course description: Spend 4 classes creating shadow boxes that include collected objects, and fragments of personal memorabilia. Creative Writing for Beginners with Rose Nielsen

6 classes: February 17 – April 7, 2015*, 6pm – 8:30pm Tuesdays (*NO CLASS March 17 & 24)

Course description: Do you have a story waiting to be told or an idea you
want to express? This is a beginner’s creative writing course offering the
basics of developing an idea, writing the story, and revising your work.
You’ll learn to create characters, form a plot and bring your writing to
life. Be ready to share and discuss your work in class.

Balkan Choir with Bessie Wapp

8 classes: February 18 – April 22*, 7 – 9 pm Wednesdays  (*NO CLASS March 18 & 25)
Course description: Add your voice to the bold dissonance & clear sweetness of ancient mulit-part Eastern European a capella songs of love & lust, harvest & hearth, wartime, badly arranged marriages, drunken husbands, & more! No prior experience required. On the last class we’ll enchant an audience with what we’ve learned.  Repeat students welcome!

Intuitive Painting with Kriya Shakti – NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME

8 classes:  February 19 – April 23*, 6pm – 8pm Thursdays (*NO CLASS March 19 & 26)
Course description: Intuitive Painting is a process art form in which the process of painting is a fun and enriching exploration of discovery, while creating unique, expressive and colourful paintings.  Painting as process releases all focus, planning and preconceived ideas of the final result of the painting.

Realistic Drawing with Kriya Shakti – NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME

8 classes: February 20 – May 1*, 5.30pm – 7.30pm Fridays  (*NO CLASS March 20, 27& April 3)
Course description:  This method of realistic drawing is based on the art and skill of being able to shift brain states, gaining access to the visual, perceptual mode of thinking located on the right hemisphere of the brain.  The course is a journey through the book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, which covers basic skills of drawing and leads the student to new ways of expressing through art.

Wet and Wild with Karen Guilbault (*CLASS IS FULL – WAIT LIST ONLY)

1 class:  February 21, 12pm – 5pm Saturday
Course description: Wet and Wild is an exploratory course in mixed media techniques, for all levels of experience. Learn how to create an abstract background by pouring, rolling, and squeegeeing paint. Make your own decorative collage papers, photo transfers, and stencils and add them into your painting. You will love the results!

Intro to Encaustic Painting with Erica Konrad (*CLASS IS FULL – WAIT LIST ONLY)

1 class:  Feb 28, 12 – 5.30pm Saturday
Course description: Join these highly informative, fun workshops to learn encaustic painting, an ancient and versatile medium of beeswax and tree sap. This workshop is designed to give an introduction to the process, explore the fundamentals of encaustic painting, the history, safe practices and fusing techniques. No prior experience necessary. Students will take home 2-3 pieces of their artwork.

Advancing The Basics: Encaustic Painting with Erica Konrad
1 class:  March 1, 10am – 3.30 pm Sunday
Course description: Join this intermediate workshop for encaustic students to refine their work, learn new techniques and apply to a home practice. Students will further techniques on texture, scraping, line and edge development, image incorporation, collage, oil pigment sticks and more. Students will take home 2-3 pieces of their artwork. * Must take Intro to Encaustic painting or have equivalent experience.

Introduction to Indie Publishing with Kristene Perron

2 classes: March 7 & 8, 10am – 4.30pm  Saturday & Sunday
Course description: In the rapidly changing world of digital publishing, it’s easy to get lost in the volumes of information out there. This workshop will teach writers the step-by-step essentials of independent publishing with a focus on hands-on learning and real-time information.

Realistic Portraiture with Sophia Mitchell – NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME

6 classes: April 13 – May 25  (NO CLASS May 18), 6.30pm – 8.30pm  Mondays
Course description:   Learn the rich art of drawing and painting portraits from live models. The class will begin with drawing and individuals may transition to painting at their own pace. The course will focus on how to see and capture proportions, tones, and forms realistically.  Colour mixing and knowledge of lighting will also be explored.

Folk Band Basics with Catherine McGrath – NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME

7 classes: April 1 – May 13, 7pm – 9pm  Wednesdays
Course description: Do you love to get together with others and sing and play music? Here’s your chance to take part in an acoustic ensemble playing an eclectic repertoire of songs with fun arrangements. If you sing or have basic skills on an instrument this class is for you! Tuition includes a private lesson.
Course fee: $170 + Material fee:  $5 + Online Registration fee
