Spring 2016 Semester schedule:
Painting Intensive : Wrestling with Colour with Deborah Thompson
4 classes: March 7, 8, 9, 10, 9.30am – 3pm Daily
Course Description: This painting intensive will allow students to set up in the oxygen studio for the week and focus on the creation of a series of new paintings. The mornings will be given to exercises that relate to the use of colour and colour theory while the afternoons will be self-directed painting with on going feedback. Group discussions around contemporary artists and group critiques of student work will be part of the intensive. A materials fee will go towards the purchase of group materials for exercises and the hiring of a model for a limited time during the intensive.

Be Creative – Mixed Media Exploration with Natasha Smith
6 classes: March 29 – May 3, 6-9pm Tuesdays
Course Description: In this 6 week course students will explore and combine different art techniques and media including: printmaking, collage, painting, shadow box (3D compositions) In this process based course the focus is on the act of being creative: developing an idea, experimenting, creating and evaluating. Following demonstrations using the various art techniques and by researching and discovering sources of inspiration, students will complete 3 self-directed projects. This course is a fun, hands on class designed for students of all levels.

Drawing Course: Settling In! with Deborah Thompson
6 classes: March 30 – May 4, 5.30-8.30pm Wednesdays
Course Description: This six week course is a continuation of last fall’s drawing course: Getting at it! New students are welcome to enter the course at this point. The first class will serve as a review and catch up for new and former students. This will include the fundamentals of drawing form in space, developing volume, mass and form. The class will then move along into a more in-depth exploration of drawing including the use of colour and varying scales of drawing from mural to sketch book. The course will also focus on understanding form through the human figure, working at times from a skeleton as well as a model. Contemporary artist’s drawings will be referenced during the course. The course is suitable for someone who has some drawing experience and most importantly a desire to draw. A model fee, materials fee and suggested materials list will accompany the course.

Singing the Blues with Bessie Wapp
8 classes: March 31 – May 19, 7 – 9 pm Thursdays
Course description: Life is the only experience required to growl, groan, wail and moan! Each week we’ll learn a blues song, and explore the rich swamp of the human voice in a relaxed & supportive environment. On the last class we’ll sing with a live band for invited guests. Tuition includes a private lesson.

Actors Studio with Jordana Champagne
7 classes: April 1 – May 13, 6.30pm – 8.30pm Fridays
Course description: Join us for a seven week class, where actors will learn professional acting skills and techniques as they prepare an audition monologue. We’ll cover everything from working with scripts, performance objectives, and expanding your range. At the end of the course actors will get to perform their monologues for friends and family.

Technique meets Inspiration with Karen Guilbault
1 class: April 2, 12pm – 5pm Saturday
Course description: Learn to mix harmonious colours to create textured, abstract backgrounds for mixed media paintings. Bring your own magazine and photocopied images to collage into your paintings. Create your own collage papers using print-making, stamping, and stencils. Principles of composition and colour theory will be introduced to help you create satisfying finished paintings. All levels of experience welcome, open to age 13 to adult.

Intuitive Painting with Kriya A.J. Shakti
6 classes: April 3 – May 8, 2pm – 4pm Sundays
Course description: Intuitive Painting is a process art form in which the process of painting is a fun and enriching exploration of discovery, while creating unique, expressive and colourful paintings. Painting as process releases all focus, planning and preconceived ideas of the final result of the painting. This method of painting combines basic painting principles with a bold, spontaneous and fearless approach, which opens one to greater intuition and creativity.

Folk Band Basics with Catherine McGrath
7 classes: April 3 – May 15, 6.30pm – 8.30pm Sundays
Course description: o you love to get together with others and sing and play music? Here’s your chance to take part in an acoustic ensemble playing an eclectic repertoire of songs and learn the fundamentals of instrumental improvisation. If you sing and have basic skills on an instrument this class is for you! Tuition includes a private lesson.

Liminal Life Writing with Rayya Liebich
6 classes: April 4 – May 9, 6.30-8.30pm Mondays
Course Description: Fuel for creativity and healing can be found by revisiting the liminal periods in our lives such as birth, grief and separation. Discover how to transform your life stories into powerful poetry and prose using literary genres such as micro memoir, creative non-fiction, and letter writing. Classes will include guided prompts, peer feedback, and take home tools. Bring your courage and pen. All skill levels and life experience welcome.
