Course Description:
Are you curious about the plants around you? Do you want to deepen your relationship with the flora in your backyard through botanical drawing and pigment experimentations?  
Appropriate for all skill levels, this course will guide you through a series of botanical drawing exercises paired with botanical ink-making tutorials to eventually draw plants with plants themselves! Jaymie will help guide participants to choose plants appropriate for pigment extraction and offer accessible alternatives wherever possible.

Tapping the Poetic Unconscious with Rayya Liebich ONLINE

1 Class: June 19

Saturday 10 am – 3 pm (lunch break 12-1 pm)

Course Description:
For one day let your inner critic take a long nap and give the right side of your brain permission to play on the page. Through a series of guided writing prompts we will tap into our unconscious minds and dig up the jewels hiding in our imaginations. Drawing from Liz Gilbert’s Big Magic, Austen Kleon’s Newspaper Blackout, and Natalie Goldberg’s techniques of entering sideways, we will write a series of new poems and come away with take-home tools and insights to awaken our unconscious in our everyday lives.

Intuitive Painting & Collage with Natasha Smith ONLINE

Course Description:
Investigate your intuitive side in this fun one-day intensive! Using alternative mark making tools we will create spontaneously on rice paper and then cut, tear and collage intuitively allowing colour, line and visual texture to inspire our creations.

Zoom as Mini Theatre with Bessie Wapp ONLINE

Course Description:
Meetings on Zoom getting you down? Explore the dramatic potential of this small screen format! This course will cover conceptual and hands-on theatrical and cinematic possibilities of Zoom: lighting, sound, entrances and exits, point of view, puppetry, and more. We will form small break out groups, develop short scenes, and perform for each other. The potential of the small screen awaits!

Beginner Ukulele with Catherine McGrath ONLINE

4 Classes: June 27, July 4, 11 & 18

Sundays 6:30 pm – 8:30pm

Course Description:
This course is designed for people who have little or no experience playing ukulele. It will begin with the basics – how to tune, hold, and strum the ukulele – followed by the introduction of two simple chords and a number of catchy two-chord songs. Additional chords will be added gradually and song complexity will increase. The course will also cover a variety of strumming patterns and some very basic and useful music theory.

Please Note: Students will not be able to hear other students playing due to the Zoom platform. Everyone will be muted during the playing of songs. They will be able to hear only themselves and the instructor playing. They will be able to unmute to ask questions between songs and during instruction.

Commedia Dell’Arte mask Performance with Bessie Wapp ONLINE

5 Classes: July 10, 11, 13, 17, 18

Sat. & Sun. 9:30-11:30am, Tues: 4-6pm

Course Description:
Explore Commedia Dell’arte, a 500+ year old Italian mask tradition involving a cast of characters that reflect the full range of human nature and foibles. Each character is driven by a strong desire unique to them so situations of hilarious conflict are the norm. Together we will embody each characters’ physicality and voice, assemble a folded paper mask (provided), develop short scenes, and watch the sparks fly!

Clown Performance Intensive! with Marya Folinsbee IN PERSON (if COVID restrictions allow)

This course will pivot to being an online course if we are unable to run this course in-person due to COVID-19 restrictions. Registered students will be notified of any alterations three-weeks prior to the first class.

Course Description:
A deep dive into the weird and fun world of clowning for performance!  Using exercises, devising techniques, storytelling, music, costume, props, and physical theatre, participants will develop at least one polished “clown turn” (a short performance), and offer supportive feedback to their fellow clowns.  Great for both experienced performers and newbies, and a fun way to work your comedy muscles in community!

Beginner 2 Ukulele with Catherine McGrath ONLINE

9 Classes: Aug. 8, 15, 22 & 29 

Sundays 6:30 pm – 8:30pm

Course Description:
This course is designed for people who have taken the preceding beginner class, the summer ukulele intensive, or who are able to play three-chord songs in the keys of C and G with a steady rhythm. The class will explore new keys, new chords, and more complex strumming patterns as they relate to a bunch of fun songs from a variety of genres.

Partner Dancing for the Terrified with Bessie Wapp ONLINE

Course Description:
Learn partner dancing in the comfort of your own home – without an audience! We will learn to feel and step on the beat, explore several dance steps (waltz, swing, salsa), and through the power of visualization apply that learning to an imaginary dance partner. Have fun dancing like nobody’s watching!

Course Description:
Whether you are a beginner to relief printmaking or already have some experience, this class is an excellent way to develop your skills. Students will explore a few different methods of using more than one colour in lino printmaking. Each student will carve and print one linocut during this one-day class. Please bring three options of images (sketches or photos) that you would be interested in turning into a lino print.
