Statement of Intent for Residency

With the residency at Oxygen Studio I intend to continue drawing the forms from my sketchbook on a scale that uses the large wall surfaces of the space.

At the same time, developing the same images in another medium, I plan to continue painting with wax. For several years I have been painting with a cold wax formula but now with space and adequate ventilation I can work with encaustic, a hot wax method.

The scale of the working space and the time given to experiment are great motivators.

Statement of Intent for a Show

A theme emerging from my sketchbooks concerns time and my relationship with it. My time is so scheduled that at night I’ve found myself drawing the bedside clock in anticipation of tomorrows timetable. In contrast, the other forms dominating the pages are jellyfish, spineless creatures with no front or back, who are dependent on the schedules of ocean currents, tides and weather patterns. I plan to integrate these two diverse images on the same page or panel and with the combination of metaphors I intend to create a narrative.
